The First blog Post

Today, I’m writing the first blog post. It will probably be brief. The website is not live yet. I’m in the process of writing out all the content for it. Descriptions of books, the dreaded ‘about me’ section. You know… Anyway, I thought I would give a brief update on my current writing project. I’m finishing up the first draft for a “Warren and Liam” short story. It takes place in Cen Leara. It’s been a… difficult story to write. I’ve been discovery writing this one, for the most part. I tend to be worse at discovery writing then plotting ahead of time, but it felt apropriate for this short story. After all, I had thought: “it’s only a short story.” Lo and behold, I’ve barely written 13k words in a month. I’m not thrilled with the slow progress. I usually aim for 1000 words a day minimum, though I shoot for 2000 words when I’ve got a nice rhythm going. Regardless, next week I will shift gears back to working on The Flame Between Us. I’ll start by reading over draft 4, and taking notes, then I will start editing until I have draft 5. I have a few small but important changes in mind for the beginning. Little tweaks that will go a long way toward fixing one character’s arc — which isn’t broken, by any means, but it previously was not reaching it’s full potential. This change will improve it significantly. Otherwise, I also have lots of feedback from a trusted critique partner. She’s gone extremely indepth with her notes and edits, and I’m excited to dig into them and polish this novel into the beautiful book I know it can be. If all goes well, this may be the last significant draft of this novel that I do. I’ve said that before, though, so expectations should be tempered. I hope to traditionally publish this novel, but if that falls through, I will self-publish it. Hell, I may put it on this website for free, if it comes to it. It’s a good story that people should have the chance to read, regardless if I make money from it. If nothing else, perhaps it can be the free novel that earns their trust and convinces them to purchase my next novel. We’ll see what happens. If anyone reading this is interested in beta reading, send me an email and I’d be happy to get you a copy.
I think that’s all for now. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
