More About Me
Hello. I’m Trip. I’m twenty-four. I’m based in Kentucky. When I’m not writing, you might find me bartending, practicing brazilian jiu jitsu, or playing guitar in my band, Juicebox. I find a lot of meaning and purpose in the act of creation, so music serves as a secondary outlet for me, when writing is a struggle. There are lots of interesting parallels between novelwriting and songwriting — I like to believe that this gives me some special insights into the creative process.
As a writer, here are a few of my biggest inspirations. If you enjoy any of these writers, you may enjoy my writing. (fingers crossed)
Robert Jordan, Scott Lynch, Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jackson Benett, Christopher Paolini, Patrick Rothfuss, George Martin, JRR Tolkien, Garth Nix, Joe Abercrombie, Pierce Brown, James Islington, and countless more…
I aim to tell stories about people. I prefer the epic fantasy genre because of how few constraints it has. Within the epic fantasy setting, you can tell a mystery, a thriller, a romance, or a war story. The possibilites are limitless. Even within a single novel, so many types of stories can exist. Secondary world settings allow us to create different constraints and situations than would ever arise in the real world. I believe this affords us, authors and readers alike, a chance to understand how other people live, as well as gives us a chance to look at real issues that plague us, but with a fresh lens, unburdended by the baggage of the real world.
Ultimately, I hope these stories will entertain and inspire. After all, if these books make even one person’s day better, than I’ve succeeded.
